MacBook Air 13 (Late 2010 - 2017) Fan Replacement
Introduction
This is a guide for a fan replacement for the MacBook Air 13 (Late 2010 - 2017).
Tools Required
• P5 Pentalobe Screwdriver
• T5 Torx Screwdriver

Precautions
• Work on a clear and open surface. • Careful when unscrewing as the some of the screws are small. • Take note of the screw driver to be used.
Step 1
Remove the 10 screws as shown in the image. - 2 x 9mm P5 screws (Red Circle) - 8 x 2.6mm P5 screws (Yellow Circle)
Step 2
Slightly lift up lower the case and push it towards the rear of the laptop to free the mounting tabs
Step 3
Grab the clear plastic pull tab attached to the battery connector and pull it towards the front of the edge to disconnect the battery
Step 4
Use the flat end of a spudger to pry the I/O board cable connector upward out of its socket on the I/O board.
Step 5
Carefully peel the I/O board cable from the top of the fan.
Step 6
While gently pulling the I/O board cable upward near its connection to the logic board, use the tip of a spudger to pry upward on alternating sides of the connector to help "walk" it out of its socket.
Step 7
Use the tip of a spudger to carefully flip up the retaining flap on the fan cable ZIF socket.
Step 8
Peel the rubber gasket off the adhesive on the top of the fan.
Step 9
Remove the following three screws securing the fan to the upper case: One 3.6 mm T5 Torx screw (Yellow Circle) One 2.7 mm T5 Torx screw (Red Circle) One 3.6 mm T5 Torx screw with a short head (Orange Circle)
Step 10
Lift the fan out of the upper case and carefully pull the fan ribbon cable out of its socket as you remove it from the Air.
Step 11
Peel off the sticker on the new fan
Step 12
Insert the new fan into the chassis
Step 13
Secure back the following three screws securing the fan to the upper case: One 3.6 mm T5 Torx screw (Yellow Circle) One 2.7 mm T5 Torx screw (Red Circle) One 3.6 mm T5 Torx screw with a short head (Orange Circle)
Step 14
Place back the rubber gasket
Step 15
Insert back the fan cable into the logic down. Flip down the retaining flap
Step 16
Place back the I/O board cable to the logic board
Step 17
Connect back the battery connector to its socket
Step 18
Place the lower case back onto the laptop
Step 19
Screw back the 10 screws to secure the lower case - 2 x 9mm P5 screws (Red Circle) - 8 x 2.6mm P5 screws (Yellow Circle)
